Desert By Definition

Night has clearly fallen.
How long does it last–trying
to bridge a distance which simply
spreads, stretched thin

between either end?
I never knew how it went with you.
All that ocean over the earth,
a body in fluid motion,

immersed in itself.
Everything is invented,
and the urge to return to
is, more aptly, to revert to–

A Northern desert at night,
barren rock fields–
neither water nor snow,
and incredibly cold.
